Re-evaluating your internal comms strategy for H2

Written by: Oluchi Ezeugo

The halfway point of the year is one of the most underutilised moments in internal communications. Most teams are heads down, focused on execution, and the idea of pausing to reevaluate can feel like a luxury. It isn’t. It’s a necessity.

Here are some tips on how to approach this time of the year effectively:

Start with an honest audit – Before planning anything new, look at what the first half of the year actually delivered. What landed well? What didn’t? Where were the gaps between what leadership needed employees to understand and what employees actually understood? Data helps here [open rates, engagement scores, attendance figures], so does simply asking people. A few honest conversations with employees and leaders can surface more than any dashboard.

Reconnect with business priorities – H2 often brings new or shifted business priorities, such as revised targets, structural changes, or new initiatives. Your internal communications strategy should reflect where the business is going for the rest of the year, not where it was in January. Revisit the leadership agenda and ask yourself if the current communications approach serves what matters most right now.

Identify the gaps and close them – Common H2 gaps could include leaders who need better support communicating change, employees who feel uninformed about strategy, and channels that have become noise rather than signal. Pick the two or three gaps that matter most and build your H2 plan around closing them.

Simplify – The second half of the year tends to accelerate. Resist the temptation to add more. The best H2 internal communications plans do fewer things better with more clarity, consistency, and intentionality.

Take care of yourself – No matter what H2 brings, always make time to pour into yourself. This work can be emotionally taxing. Your well-being is vital and non-negotiable. So rest, take your leave, and do whatever you need to do to make sure you’re at your best.

Have a great H2 – you’ve got this!
